Zen Shiatsu Pets and Service Animal Policy

Zen Shiatsu Chicago is a school and clinic that specializes in clinical applications for clients with complex immune system disorders.  We accomodate clients with complex immune system conditions by limiting allergen exposure in communal clinical rooms.  As such, service animals are not allowed in group clinical sessions (Student Clinic)

The exception to this policy is the private treatment rooms, where other clients will not be in proximity to the animal for the full duration of a treatment, and turnover time allows extra cleaning before the next client.

In accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act and Illinois White Cane Law, Zen Shiatsu allows Service Animals on site in the public corridors and private session setting. The animal must be individually trained to perform tasks or to do work for the benefit of a person with a disability. The work, task or duties performed must be directly related to its owner’s disability.

A patron wishing to have a service animal accompany them must verify that the animal is a service animal and state the tasks or work that the animal has been trained to perform.

The following animals are allowed under our Animal Policy:

  • Guide Animals
  • Hearing Animals
  • Seizure Alert Animals
  • Assistance Animals
  • Mobility Animals
  • Autism Assistance Animals
  • Psychiatric Service Animals
  • Animals Trained for other physical, mental or intellectual disability
